About My Business

Remix Plastic is an education program that uses recycled plastic products to engage people in a conversation around reducing single use plastic consumption and creating a circular economy. We share skills and knowledge to empower individuals to make sustainable changes. We strive to link individuals and organisations to build a network of environmentally conscious and active communities. With local waste, we create products that have a sustainable story - not only does this divert waste from landfill but also provides a way to engage people in a conversation around reducing single use plastic. We embed concepts like kaitiakitanga and circular economy into our works through the use of sustainable design principles and environmental story telling. We recycle PLA (3D printer filament) from the Christchurch Central Library - this allows us to also educate around the use of technology for innovative solutions to Climate Change and promote libraries as a creative space. We also recycled container lids that are not collected in our local commercial recycling. This allows us to point out the issues with large scale commercial recycling, answer people's questions AND divert waste from landfill. The project works collaboratively with other educators, facilitators and specialists to grow and increase the positive impact on sustainability education throughout Christchurch and New Zealand. Over the past 6 years we have collaborated with libraries, non-profit groups working in conservation, waste reduction and science communication. We love seizing opportunities to have numerous forms of impact; diverting waste from landfill, encouraging behaviour change, communicating science, donating to conservation causes and much more!
